How did the Stamps Scholarship help shape your undergraduate experience?
Before receiving the Stamps Scholarship, I didn’t think college would ever be an option for me and my family due to its astronomical price tag. Because of Mr. and Mrs. Stamps’ generosity, I have been able to earn a degree from a world-renowned school with no financial burden on me or my family, allowing me to invest in making the future brighter for those around me.

Knowing what you know now, what advice would you give your freshman self?
Perfection is overrated. I worked harder than I could have ever imagined in order to get a scholarship to Georgia Tech, and once I received my first B at this school, I breathed a massive sigh of relief. The pressure to be perfect was overwhelming, and once I learned to accept myself for all of my little imperfections, I found more fulfillment and enjoyment throughout college and my life.

Who has had the greatest impact on you throughout your college career and how so?
I have not had a friend greater than my mother. She has been there for me in my brightest moments and my darkest days. Without her love and encouragement, I don’t think I would have made it through the tough times of college. She has sacrificed an incredible amount for me and the rest of our family, and I hope I can continue to always show her how truly and eternally grateful I am.

What’s your favorite Stamps Scholar memory?
Before my first semester at Georgia Tech, my Stamps class went on a backpacking trip through Scotland. This trip was one of many firsts for me: the first time I rode on a plane, the first time I left the country, and the first time I walked around a town with a mosquito net covering my face! I got to meet my fellow Stamps scholars for the first time, and the challenges and obstacles we overcame together only brought us closer.

What comes next?
After graduation, I will be working with Teach For America for two years in Memphis, TN as a high school math teacher. I will then be attending medical school to begin working towards my mission of providing equal access to healthcare for all individuals across the globe.
